The road leading to the campground is winding and two-lane. However, there are plenty of signs telling you when and where to turn. We particularly appreciated being routed on a bridge over the railroad tracks in the town of Saluda. We were traveling with a 13-year old and he was greatly entertained here with the facilities available. He used the zip line, the lake for swimming and for paddle boats, and the skateboard ramps. Our site was long enough for our 36-foot unit and our full-sized SUV. The office staff was courteous and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
The new owners have really worked to spruce up the park. They are very friendly, helpful, proud of their park, and concerned about their guests. I was given instructions for a "safe" way to get to the casinos. I appreciated the cleanliness of the park. The wifi has worked well for us. They have discounts for Good Sam or for Escapees. The sites are narrow, and we didn't put our patio awning out all the way because we were afraid that it would hang over the site on that side of the coach. Since we are here for only one night, that's not a problem for us. We will stay here again.
We had a blood-pressure raising experience just trying to get into this park. Getting to the park requires careful navigation. When we arrived at the front gate, we pressed the intercom button to ask for admittance, but there was a malfunction and we received a busy-signal type sound. When I used my cell phone to call the office to ask for admittance, the manager (Mike) answered the phone and was very rude. He agreed to open the gate, but did not. When I called back, he yelled at me to use the intercom and then hung up on me. We were rescued by a very nice young woman from the office who walked out and opened the gate. She was so pleasant we chose to overlook the manager's behavior. The park is located at the intersection of two interstate highways which makes it extremely noisy if you are parked on the periphery. It does have nice facilities and is reasonably close to a Camping World and Chicago.
This is a very friendly, quiet park in a unique location. We considered it one of the nicer experiences on our trip. The owners have made an effort to make the park enjoyable for all guests. The grounds and the pool were very clean. Although our site did not have sewer, we found the dump station a convenient stop on the way out of the park. We enjoyed walking through the dunes, and our grandson enjoyed hunting for "gem stones". The drive to Freeport is short so we were able to run into town for dinner.
